IKO Shingle Repair: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

We repair and replace IKO shingles in Dallas every week, and most single-area shingle repairs run between $350 and $650 installed, depending on roof pitch, accessibility, and how many shingles the damage actually involves. If you’ve got curling, cracking, granule loss, or a leak tracing back to a small section of your roof, this is usually a same-day or next-day fix once we’ve walked the roof and confirmed the scope. The way most Dallas homeowners discover an IKO shingle problem is either a water stain on the ceiling after a storm or granules collecting in the gutter after a windy week. Sometimes it’s a section of shingles that just looks wrong from the street, lifted at the edges or faded unevenly compared to the rest of the roof. Whatever tipped you off, the fix starts with knowing exactly which IKO shingle you have and what it’s doing.

We’re Tilehurst Roofing Dallas, part of the Kingswell family of roofing companies, and we’re an independent roofing contractor. We install and repair IKO shingles, but we’re not affiliated with IKO directly. That independence means we tell you the truth about what a repair needs and what it costs before any work begins. Greg Holloway, our owner, walks every Dallas roof himself before we quote a number. Price before we touch it. That’s just how a roof conversation ought to start.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

The repair process starts with identifying your shingle line. IKO’s most common residential shingles in Dallas are the architectural lines: Cambridge, Dynasty, and Nordic. Cambridge is the workhorse, a dimensional shingle with a heavier look than a standard 3-tab. Dynasty offers a larger exposure and is rated for higher wind, which matters in Dallas spring storm season. Nordic is the premium line with a thicker profile and the longest warranty coverage. If your roof is older, you may have Marathon or Royal Estate, both discontinued but still on thousands of roofs across Dallas. We still repair those when we can, and we’ll tell you straight when patching a discontinued color means a visible mismatch.

The compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t know: IKO color lots shift slightly between production runs. A “Weatherwood” Cambridge bundle bought today won’t always match a “Weatherwood” Cambridge roof installed six years ago, because the granules come from different mineral batches. For small repairs, we match as close as physically possible and tell you honestly what to expect. For larger damage, that color drift is often the deciding factor in whether you repair a section or replace the slope. We stock IKO Cambridge and Dynasty in the most common Dallas colorways on our trucks, and we can source the rest through our supplier network within one to two business days. For aftermarket options, we carry GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, and others, so if an exact IKO match isn’t practical, you’ll hear the alternatives with prices, not a shrug.

Signs Your IKO Shingle Repair Is Failing

  • Granules in the gutters or at downspout outlets. IKO shingles shed granules as the asphalt weathers, but heavy accumulation in one spot means the shingle’s protective surface is failing and the mat underneath will start deteriorating faster.
  • Curling at the shingle edges or corners. Dallas heat accelerates asphalt drying. When shingles curl upward, wind gets underneath them, and the next spring storm tears them loose. A curled shingle won’t flatten back down once it’s baked into that shape.
  • Cracking, especially on the south and west slopes. UV exposure on the sun-facing sides of Dallas roofs breaks down the shingle’s flexibility. Cracks let water reach the decking, and by the time you see a stain inside, the decking usually needs attention too.
  • Lifted or missing shingles after wind. IKO shingles are wind-rated, but age and seal-strip failure reduce that rating over time. If shingles are lifting in a small area, often the seal strip has let go and neighboring shingles may follow.
  • Dark streaks or mossy-looking patches. In shaded Dallas neighborhoods with mature trees, organic growth traps moisture against the shingle surface. It’s rarely a structural emergency, but it shortens shingle life and needs cleaning before it spreads.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For most IKO shingle repairs in Dallas, you’re looking at $350 to $650 for a small, localized repair on a walkable roof. That covers labor, the replacement shingles, sealant, and disposal. Repairing a ridge cap or a vent flashing usually lands at the lower end, while a repair near a valley or a steep second-story section lands higher. If the decking underneath is soft or rotted, we quote that repair as a separate line item before any work starts, never as a surprise after the shingles come off.

Every repair includes a written guarantee, and under our 365-Day Done Right Promise, if that repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. You also get the Kingswell Way on every job: a written price before we touch anything, a crew that arrives in the window we gave, a clean job site when we leave, and a guarantee in writing before the crew pulls away. That’s standard on a $400 patch and a $40,000 roof replacement alike.

DIY or Call Us?

Working on a roof is genuinely dangerous, and I say that as someone who’s been doing it since trade school in Los Angeles and across Dallas for well over a decade now. Falls are the most common serious injury in roofing, and Dallas roofs with steep pitches, heat, and wind loading make the risk worse, not better. If your roof is walkable and you just want to check the scope, you can get a look from a ladder and photograph what you see without ever stepping onto the shingles. We’ll take your photos over the phone and give you an honest read on what we think we’re looking at.

What you shouldn’t do is walk a roof you haven’t worked on, caulk curling shingles back down and expect it to hold, or try to replace shingles with mismatched materials from a big-box store. Bad materials and bad technique turn a $400 repair into a $2,000 water damage bill. If you want us to handle it, call (903) 499-4275 and we’ll walk the roof and put the number in front of you in writing.
